A Maryland native, she attended McDaniel College in Westminster, MD for her undergraduate degree in biology, and then went on to pursue her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She worked in a small animal practice in Maryland for several years until moving to New Jersey; she joined Winslow Animal Hospital in January 2017.

She has also completed specialty training at the Animal Dental Training Center in Maryland and the Small Animal Ultrasound workshop in New York. She is looking forward to pursuing certifications in food and herbal therapy at the Chi Institute in the near future.

She has a professional interest in integrative medicine, using both Western medicine and acupuncture together to restore and maintain balance in the body. Other professional interests include preventative medicine and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. McDermott lives in Haddon Township with her husband, also a local veterinarian. They enjoy hiking and camping with their 2 rescue dogs, Zeke, a Brittany, and Kacee, a German Shorthaired Pointer. They also share their home with a rabbit (Clementine), 2 geckos (Waldo and Lernaea), and 2 snakes (Serpentor and their newest rescue Oscar Banana).
